To encourage students to use ZTF and other synoptic surveys, we host yearly summer schools, typically in August. Aimed at the graduate student level, the school provides an introduction to major topics of current research as well as hands-on instruction in time-domain methods. Topics included in the school cover photometry, spectroscopy, time-series analysis and more. Students developing skills and science interests in these areas will be well-prepared for the LSST era.
Students work through Python Jupyter notebooks under the guidance of experts in the field
Participants will process real data from ZTF and other transient surveys
Participants receive training in Bayesian inference, time-series analysis
Attendees learn to apply machine learning techniques to data processing of astronomical data
